Bill Frist

Senator Bill Frist, M.D.

Former United States Senate Majority Leader

Dr. Bill Frist is a nationally acclaimed heart and lung transplant surgeon, former U.S. Senate Majority Leader, and current chair of The Nature Conservancy’s Global Board of Directors. He served as a U.S. Senator from Tennessee from 1995 to 2007, becoming the first practicing physician in the Senate since 1928. As Majority Leader from 2003 to 2007, Dr. Frist played a pivotal role in passing landmark legislation, including the Medicare Modernization Act and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Beyond his political career, he is a founding partner of Frist Cressey Ventures and serves as chairman of the Executives Council at Cressey & Company. Dr. Frist is also a senior fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center and hosts the “A Second Opinion” podcast, exploring the intersection of policy, medicine, and innovation.
